when i was home for the holidays, my very dear friend jennifer gave me a brilliant piece of advice. we were talking about this crazy blogging business. i was telling her about my recent addiction with checking every one's blogs. she told me to be careful because she, too, had gone through this same phase and found herself becoming discouraged with all the perfectness. i agreed that seeing the cute meals, cute home decor, cute outfits, cute photos, and overall general cuteness of it seems like the lives of everyone else, had made me feel a little on the less cute side of things. jen, in her wisdom, reminded me that most people only post their best moments, and not to let it discourage me. (like when they clean there houses relentlessly because they know their visiting teachers are coming over, and then they snap a picture and post it like it's an every day occurrence.) that was great advice and it is with this spirit that i share this "food post" from a recent meal i attempted.
this is the "easy" chili recipe my sister sent me.(yes, it was intended for humans and not a pig trough) it tasted worse than in looks.
i dedicate this to you jen, and all others needing a little glimpse of imperfectness.

i completely agree and am guilty. Yesterday i snapped some pictures for a blog post after making the bed, fluffing the pillows and adding some accessories that aren't typically there. maybe one day that's how it will really look.
ReplyDeletethanks for the breath of fresh air.
Good for you, Brooke (yeah, I blog stalked you- deal with it). I use to get so annoyed with the "this is us being perfect" blogs. I'd compare them to my blog where I don't think there's not a single photograph of a meal I've "cooked" nor of our shoe box sized, poorly decorated apartment and don't even get me started on DIY projects (my idea of a DIY is saftey pinning my skirt). But we all know that stuff doesn't really matter anyway and "to compare is to despair." And to live a full, beautiful, imperfect life tied together by people and not pillows... well that's worth blogging about.
ReplyDelete*subtract the "not" from I don't think there's not a single photograph... yeah, like I needed any more proof that I'm not perfect...
